I seem to have a slight surge when I am slowly accelerating when the truck has set all day or night. I never notice it after it warms up, but when I leave the office I let it idle for a few seconds and drive with a very light throttle on the little backroads until I reach the main drag.

When I have very light throttle I can hear it more that feel it as the VP-44 is a little louder when cool. We are not talking cold starts either as it has been in the 70's here during the day.

I did a search and it sounds like it may be something to do with the TPS, but I am open to any thoughts. What is the recommended method to clean the TPS. I may try this and see what happens

TIA

I wonder if perhaps the setting you have on your EZ might be contributing to the problem - I think there are some fueling controls employed by the ECM that function until the engine reaches operating temperature - and I know the Edge Comp will DEfuel at some lower settings - put the 2 together, and it might create the symptom you speak of - you could try disabling the EZ, or another setting to see what effect it has...

surging?

I've an 02 Q/C,Auto,3. 54s, 4" pipes I also run an EZ. My question is when I get on it off (WOW) off the line it surges as if it is fueling-defueling-fueling-defueling-fueling, or possibly advancing and retarding timing until you get up to about 20-25 MPH. I've changed boxes and still does it. There is probably a simple answer. ( needs to be I got a simple mind) I would really like to see if one of the wiser minds on this site jump in here and enlighten me. (bring a really bright light) HEEEELLLLPPPPP:confused:

It has just started doing it in the past few weeks, that is what is odd. The EZ has been on for roughly 40K and I have never noticed it before, even after actual cold starts. I guess I usually let it warm up a few minutes when real cold and usually just take off easily when it is warm.

Mine did the something like you described until I washed off the terminal connections on the battery(s). After I did that it ran like a million bucks.

On top of that, the transmission even seems to shift more positive/firm. Not sure why???? but I'll take it.

Not sure if all the road salt was affecting the ground or not? if that is the case, these electric trucks are very sensitive to having the batteries grounded properly.

surging

Hey Breck, I see your running DD2s. How do you like them? Are they the only injectors that you have tried? I'm gettin ready to do some new injectors and am curious because we seem to have very similar setups on our trucks. What about millage? towing performance. DOES IT RIP? thanks Jelly.

I checked my negative battery terminals and they were both loose! I took them off and cleaned them with electronic cleaner and put them back on and tightened them down good. We'll see if that helps. I don't know what it is as it seems to be more injection noise that surging, but maybe since I'm not in lockup I just can't feel it.

We'll see tomorrow what it does.

I don't know what is going on with this silly thing. Today is sits all day with the temperature in the 40's. Wait to start runs a short cycle, starts on first crank as always and it is surging. I watch the tach and it isn't hardly moving, but you can definitely hear it. Sounds like 25-50 rpm.

It has something to do with being cold because once it reaches normal operating temperature it runs great. I run the codes and I come up with a p500 and a p1693. I did a search and p500 has something to do with using a high idler, which I have. I think I will pull the EZ and see what happens and then the high idler. If it is still doing it I may take it in. At least I will have all the aftermarket part eliminated from the equation.

Please chime in if you have any advise.

Sorry so long.

TIA

Jman:

Mine does it on occassion also. The first time it did it (about 5 weeks ago) was going down 285 through the San Luis Valley. It was very cold out but had driven 200 miles already when it started doing it 65mph a steady one second cycle of up down, up down... . did for 100 miles stopping and restarting did not do anything only noticed it at 55+mph. Then it stopped and didn't do it for a few weeks then going up I25 from Castle Rock it started doing it once again same as before 55+mph steady one second cycle. Since then it has started doing it at low speeds 20+mph. Only sometimes though and never at idle. It only seems to last for a short period now though maybe 10 minutes. Mine did it with the ez on or off cruise on or off and sometimes the tach bounces a little and sometimes no noticeable bounce at all. Drives me crazy. Am worried that it is the vp44 or maybe the Crank Position Sensor. Don't think it is the TPS (apps) because it still does it with cruise on and don't think the cruise gets its signal from the tps. If you find anything out please holler at me.

I never notice mine at high speeds only at idle or just after a cool start. I hope it isn't the VP44, but I guess it is possible. It is driving me a little crazy too, but I really don't want to take it to the dealer for any reason. I didn't think we had a CPS on this new of model, but I could be mistaken and thinking of something else.

I will take off the EZ after this blizzard gets out of here and see what happens. That is something we have in common, but if the fueling box was to blame I'm sure we would have read something about this before now. Do the guys at CO diesel have the computer diagnostic equipment? Maybe I should take it to them and see what they come up with. The only thing that sucks about that is no warranty and I would have to foot the bill.

Who knows, I may just drive it until it quits and then we'll have to figure it out. :eek: :eek: :{

Yeah I was waiting for it to start happening all the time so the dealer could replicate it. Nothing like taking your vehicle in to the dealer just to be told we couldnt get it to do it so seeeeeeya wouldn't want to beeeee ya, come on back when it is dead in the middle of the road 100 miles from nowhere with no cell service in a raging storm. I guess to be fair if it doesn't do it how are they supposed to know what it is or where to start

Thought about calling CO Diesel to see if they ever heard of it before.

Let me know if you find anyhting out.
