I assume you're just replacing the control arm bushings? If so then there is no need to remove the coils/shocks. You can actually do it with the truck on the ground if you want, just work on one control arm at a time. R&R the bushings on the arm, reinstall and then move on to the next arm. I replaced all 4 on mine that way on my 2nd gen and they slipped right in, zero problems.

If it makes you feel safer (and it probably is) just barely raise the truck to put jack stands underneath the frame to take most of the weight and use a floor jack to maneuver the front axle around as needed.

With either method it will save you a lot of cursing if you do one at a time, the other 3 control arms will keep the axle located where it needs to be. If you pull all 4 at once you'll be wrangling a Dana 60 to get everything lined up again in which case DavidC's suggestion to remove the coils might make that job easier.

Thanks GrantP for your time

I wouldn't change the bushings again on mine, just the whole control arm. cheap as dirt and saves hours in time.

Is the replacement part of good metal quality? not some cheap made in china junk , that will not be able to keep an alignment? I need all suspension rubber replaced on a 2wd. seen some on ebay but don't know about quality. is it 2500, 3500, or 1500.?

bought mine on rockauto, some moog, some mevotech, but to me the moogs are slightly better built.
would buy again.

in the past I changed once only the bushings but that was difficult because the new bushings didn't fit perfect and get loose after some 1000 miles.

I also replaced control arms (Top Gunz Tubulars like $220 for all 4) and did the one at a time method. Worked well had to use a ratchet strap to persuade the bottom-back arm into the mounts. Also did on the ground rear end facing down driveway chucked the front wheels and e-brake + chucks on rears.
