Finally got around to installing sport lights and low beams work but no brights. I called the suvlights guy and all he kept saying was "you got 3 wires" and im like ya and they work with the stock bulb plugged in. But anyway I was just wanting to get some help with this because the wiring looks wrong on the hi beam side and it looks like one relay is on the ground side. It also looks like on low beam the bright filaments are burning. If anyone has a schematic for doing this right please do tell.

suv lights

i've got a bit of the same problem. installed suvlights relay setup with stock[non sport] headlights. now the dimmer switch doesn't work right hard yo getit to switch from hi to low beam. takes several tries and the dash light doesn't match up. I've found that pulling on the lever very slowly will get to low beams but sometimes it doesn't catch and goes back to high beams. Haven't got hold of suv yet had a lot of stuff and a driveline howl to track down. I know it has something to do with the relays possible less amps going through switch or something my install went ok but no instuctions were sent at all. could be yours are stuck on bright like mine, try pulling lever slowly hope this helps. craig

Im getting it I had to rewire the harnesses. They had both bulbs wired the same and one relay wired for high and low beam it looked like, on BOTH sides what a freakin joke. I am not impressed. When I am done they are gonna be 9007 low beam and 9004hi/9007hi/low on bright. I'll go from 2 filament to 6 filament when I hit the brights. I read somewhere that in 2000 they changed from the old style to a new style that uses a ground switch and plugs for the bulbs are hot all the time. That seems to be how mine are. I have to put my thinkin cap on when I get around relays.

From '94 to '98, the headlight sw and dimmer sw provided power to the 9004 bulbs, with a common ground for high and low. In 98. 5 when the sport model were introduced, the power control changed. They used a oe relay for high beam and went with a common power and controlled the ground thru the headlight sw and dimmer sw for high beam and low beam. So the harnesses that are provided for the sport light conversions utilize these controlled grounds to provide the ground for the pull in coil of the relays used in the harness. The harnesses I make up have all four high beam filaments on for high beam but only the outboard filament for low beam. I believe too much heat is generated from having more filaments burning and run the risk of damaged plugs and pot assemlies, IMO.

So...

So if you have a 98. 5 and up truck, you should be fine with the harness that suvlights provides. Is that correct? Im getting ready to do this modification on my truck. Dont want any problems when I get them.

Thanks

Craig

Can't answer 100% positive on that, HOWEVER, the SUVLIGHTS wiring was plug and play with zero problems on my 2001. 5.

I think the Oriental gentleman that assembled my harness was having a bad day that day. I also found that the wire color at one of the 9004 sockets changed from one color to another inside the harness thanks to a set of butt connectors. I got both harnesses completly rewired and one had the low beam 9004 bulb lit dimly on high and low beam. So after pulling on my hair for a little while I pulled all the loom off of the wires and found that the plug in for the 9004 bulb started out grey then got spliced to yellow and vice versa! WOW i'm not gonna bash suvlights to death as I know alot of people have had great experience with them but my harness was a total wreck. Its all good now with 9007 lo/beam and 9007hi/lo-9004hi for high beam. The brights are un believable. And with the outboard filaments on low beam it is alot brighter and has a wider coverage also.

That's very interesting as I have the same problem on my harness purchased from SUV lights. I have checked the basics, but hadn't called the company yet; nor had the time to pull the harnesses completely apart to double check the wiring.

More details of what you had to change would probably help me a lot as I am not the best with relays either.

You guys should just make your own harnesses. You don't want to rely on some POS harness assembly. You can copy what they sent you and send them back. All you need are the relays and the light socket plugs. When I wired my sport headlights I installed a switch in the cab so I can turn off the outboard high beams when the ambient temperatures rise. So when the switch is one all 8 filaments are on. When the swithch is off I only have 4 low and 2 high filaments. Either way the light difference is amazing. Making your own harness is not a big deal.

I have the SUV kit, and when my lows are on, only the outboard lows are lit, When my highs are on, only my inboard highs are lit. I dont know exactly how it is supposed to work, anyone that can help I'd surely appreciate it!
