I'm buying a 99 quad cab auto to replace my 97 reg cab 5spd. I want to put the Dana 80 in the 99 before I sell the 97. Does anyone know if the universal joints are the same size? I figure the 80 probably uses a larger joint, but I'm not sure. Thanks. Todd:)

PM Jim Fuller, (CUMINNTSTRKN) he did this swap, he'll know all the details. I "think", you'll need to shorten the drive-shaft anyway, because the 80 is larger and sits forward a touch more.

Sorry, I should have said that both trucks are 2500's. The 5speeds have the Dana 80, where as the auto's use the Dana 70.

I figure in order to swap the rears, I'll need to get new driveshafts made. I'm not sure that's true, that's why I started this post. I thought somebody would have done this swap already, and had the answer I'm looking for. Todd;)
