I'm running a 4. 10 now. I'm definitly swapping to at least 3. 73s soon. I don't tow a whole lot, an occasional truck and trailer or a boat in the summer. But I'd like to have the option of getting a camper at a later date. If I had a manual I wouldn't hesitate on the 3. 54s, but since I have an auto I'm not sure.

Any opinions?

I have a manual with the 3. 54 and tow a 28' (floor length) steel gooseneck horse trailer that weighs around 4k lbs empty. No problem. I think you might like it better in an auto, the 2nd to 3rd gearing is VERY slow from a stop, and if you have to start in 1st, forget it. The auto will make this transition faster, I would think. But good hwy speeds and low RPMs make up for the slow starts.

I have that combo and think it works well. It is a little slow out of the hole with a heavy load but once its rolling no problem. I tow 8000+ almost daily.

I have been thinking the same thoughts . When i first bought it i didn,t think much of it but now its geting old . I went up on tire sizes and it still revs pretty good on the freeway . with a 4x2 it will be a cheaper swap for you good luck :)
