Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) swapping NV4500 into auto 12v

Ok I know this has been talked about a zillion times, but every post I see has different amounts of parts and such PS I have a 98 12v shortbed auto (obviously)



the transmission is going to be a blumenthal with the 1 3/8" input and a south bend clutch

instead of shortening/lengthening the driveshafts, I figured to save time I would just get teh driveshafts from the same vehicle in a salvage yard but of a truck that was a manual transmission



Im also going to get a flywheel off the board here

the shifter (again I can get this in a salvage yard)





Dodge master, slave, Hydr line & Fluid reservoir assy (not sure exactly what all of this entails) can this be had at a salvage yard as well or atleast cheaper new or something?



Bellhousing ( I read in a previous post the one from the auto transmission will bolt up?)



Engine Adapter / Flywheel Housing ( I honestly dont know what this is or where to find that in a salvage yard)



(release fork, pivot and spring) would these or some of these come with the new clutch?



starter (Ive heard the auto starter working as well)



transmission crossmember, should I just get one from a salvage yard as well?



Pedals, I guess this is salvage yard as well, do I need all three or just the clutch and what else with this?





Thanks and I apologize for taking up so much space, but I am trying to put this together best I can because I cannot find a stick shift 12v shortbed so I need to literally make one.

Check with you local Cummins Dealer. Get the engine serial # to take with you. They make adapters for the transmission you want to install. Tell them what tranmission you will want to put on the engine and they should be able to get you the right adapter with the proper bolt pattern for the bell housing.



That is one thing I discovered. These engines are so widely used in so many different configurations and there is allot of stuff already out there.



Your Cummins Dealer should be able to guide you and tell you exactly what you need to look for.

Need INFO on swapping a pv5600 6 speed into a 1996 3500 (currently auto trans)

Dear old dad has a 230k mile 3500 dually 4x2 club cab with the POS 47re auto trans. He is wanting to convert it to a late model pv5600 6 speed manual. HAs anyone done this? Where can the parts be found reasonably? The stock auto is a hunk of garbage rebuilt twice already! It has a shifting problem where it shifts in and out of OD at will, enough to make me carsick!!It shifts back and forth, though some dyas it works fine for an hour. HELP?

Swapping trannys

It will be a lot easier to swap trannys in the 4X2 than The 4X4 as there is no transfere case to mess with.

A good set up can be purchased from a local wrecking yard. Expect to pay around $2000. oo for the transmission, bell housing,fly wheel, pressure plate, throw out bearing and actuator arm, and the slave cylinder - master cylinder - resavour assy. and the clutch-brake hangar will be an additional cost. Considering the miles and age of the truck, you have to ask yourself if this exercise is worth it. It is a lot of work and if you are not going to do it yourself then shop rates ($) might not be wouth it. Also, the NV5600 is about six inches longer than the auto so there will be driveshaft shortening and balancing. (App. $300. 00) It is chalanging and satisfying to accomplish something like that and I wish you the best.
