I found a 2001 4:10, Dana 80 axle with disc brakes. Does anyone know how hard the swap would be i. e. , parking brake hook-up, proportioning valve if any, 4WD ABS. Thanks

It is amazing what fathers know when your talking to them about their sons joining the navy. This father's friend totaled his 3500 and bought it back from the insurance company. He has sold **** near everything from this truck. He wants $800. 00 for the rear. I told him I'll buy it!

Typically, vehicles with rear disc brakes wear out rear pads alot faster than vehicles with drum brakes. I'm not sure if it would be a worthwhile swap.
The rear disc trucks have a different master cylinder and they only come with 4wheel ABS. I imagine that the parking brake cables are going to be different and the proprtioning valve will have different pressures,so you'll really need all that other stuff as opposed to just the rear axle alone.

Disc brakes are great but I,m not sure the swap is worth the trouble. There is only so much pressure you can put on the rear without sliding the wheels when empty. The big advantage would be if the truck is loaded all the time then that rear disc setup would really help out the fronts if yo can get the increased pressure that would be needed.

Also, based on the article in the latest TDR it sounded like they were almost complementary of the brakes on the RAM. In the 60 to zero stopping test the Ram stopped between the Cheby and the Phord. They indicated that the Ram engineers had done their homework on the brake system. I think I'd stay with the drums.

My 4 wheel discs are superior to my 99's drum/disc set up. I wouldn't hesitate. Cheaper than buying a new truck, wich is what I had to do.
