I just got a vp44 for my friends 02 ho six speed any suggestions on removal and reinstalling? I am just a 12v guy and don't know much about 24v. Oo.
 
not very hard at all. i just did two of them last week. the hardest part on mine was the very back high pressure line. mark
 
It has been a while since I did mine... let's see if I can remember some important points.



Make sure the keyway on the pump is UP to avoid dropping the key into the motor.



You can turn the motor using the alternator nut. Works well!



Make sure you use the supplied key with the new/rebuilt pump. They are numbered and MUST match the pump you are installing!



Some metric crowfoot style line wrenches sure make it easier to get some of the injector line nuts off.



Remove the injection lines in two sets of three... not individually.



Take your time. It really isn't difficult.

VP 44 Removal

Is there any easy way to get the keyway to the top, can you see the key way with the oil fill spout off of the front gear case cover? :confused:
 
Unscrew the crankcase vent from the front of the motor. You have to anyway to get to the nut on the injection pump shaft and pull the gear. With the nut off, but before you pull the gear, you can see the keyway... you might have to use a mirror to see it.



The bolts from the intake air horn fit the gear on the injection pump. I used a regular harmonic ballancer puller to pull the gear and added a couple of 3/8 nuts as spacer/washers.

VP 44 Removal

Well i tackeled the vp 44 swap tonight, it was a breeze much easier than i thought, trucks runs great, took around 2 hrs with some I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER chatin and installed a low pressure switch on the inlet line going to the vp 44 and it will light up if the fuel pressure gets lowbelow 4psi. Thanks for the info!!! Oo.
