Anybody out there swapped a 6 spd transmission into a 99 Dodge? I want to replace my 5 spd, 5th gear went out. I would like to know if it's a better transmission, and what it took to install it?
What I would like to know is if the 6 spd is a better transmission than the 5spd. Is it worth the difference in cost to go through the changes that must be made?
That depends on what you intend to do with it, and how much you want to spend. If my Getrag ever goes out, it'll get replaced with a 6 speed or RTO1066 (Eaton-Fuller). THe NV5600 is a medium duty truck tansmission, about 450 lbs if I recall correctly. The Nv4500 is a pickup transmission, just a hair over 200lbs. If you go the 6 speed route, you will need to get a custom clutch to accomodate the larger input shaft. Or at least get the disc redone for it; along with mounts, brakcets, etc.
