Swapping trannies '04 to '06

I'm thinking about taking apart my truck and installing stuff on my wife's '06 Megacab. I know the turbos, intercooler, cp3, etc will swap. But what about the transmission. Both are autos and both are 4X4s. Will it work? (My '04 is a 48RE)

The 04 48RE VB is a little different than the 04. 5+. I think that can be made to work. The cases are different, the 04. 5+ has a mounts for the throttle valve motor. DOn't think the 04 and down do.

I think the 04 has a separate transmission computer, and the 06 is controlled by ECM. So you should then swap engine, and transmission, and computers, and wiring harness, cruise control, and speedometer (dash computer) and stereo, and sentry key, and may even need to do some code clearing in the ABS.



Is it worth it?

As bad as I'd love to have my motor in her truck I think swapping motors is a bit much.

What about swapping internals?

early 04. 5 transmissions still have the tv cable and not the actuator for the valve body. Mine still has the cable and it is a pain in the a&% to get it right.

That is interesting, I figure that would make it an 04 then. You could swap internals, or swap cases LOL. Just watch your stack up heights. Some of those could be case dependent.

I bought a used 03 race transmission. The seller had a very reputable transmission shop swap the internals into a 05 case. The transmission rocks. PM me if you have any questions.

Sounds like a shame though, seperating an engine like that from a transmission that can handle all that power.

You might be getting more then you bargan for

I would say you better leave well enough alone until you study the what you half to do the make everything work. It don't sound simple by no means. You might have two truck that are screw up.

Yea, jsut thinking about it that's all. I want to sell my truck. No need having two big diesels in the family. Figured I'd put stuff on her truck because that's our new tower. With what I got in the transmission. No one will care when I sell it. Just thinking out loud that's all.

If you're planning on selling the 03, might as well make some calls to transmission shops & talk to them about swapping internals. I know it can be done, since thats how I got my transmission.
