Anybody just swap out their stock valve body for an ATS valve body or other something similar and then later did the torque converter? Any cons to just doing the valve body?

It is not worth the effort The TC/VB Are not standalone units,In order to the the greatest benefit you should do both. The stock TC will not adapt well to the ATS VB.

I disagree a valve body is a good start it will improve tranmission shifting points easy install just when you do it go with the deep sump pan helps keep fluid cooler and ads extra 4 quarts to capacity. You can also add torque convertor later if you don't want to break the bank all at once they are pricey. Off the topic take a look at bd powers pressure loc it is a pneumatic ram that controls line pressure you line pressure now is controlled by your throttle pedal so at 20% throttle your generating around 400 lbs/ft of torque but your line pressure is only 20% causing slipping and shuddering the pneumatic ram takes over this operation and will more than triple line pressure at such low throttle percenatages.

I just posted and saw ths thread afterwards. I haven't considered the option but if it makes sense i would rather spend the $495. 00 for the valave body and the $1,388. 00 for the torque converter later! I assume the labor would equal out at the end.

I did just that, a vb then later I added the tc. you can slip the stock tc but the added line pressure does help. you can go for the race vb ( higher line pressure ) over the towing vb that may hold even more power. I would shell out the $ for some sort of controller to lock the tc.

The more I think about it, I don't have the time to keep messing with the problem. I think I'll bite the bullet and have it all done at once. What the heck, I spent 5K on wheels, what's another 2K! If it takes care of the problem, I'll be happy. Then the only thing to fix would be the famous Launch Shudder! Still working on that!

Is increasing the line pressure safe on everything? Could I do the VB right now and the Bd pressure loc together? Will all this help if the tc is shuttering at higher horse power?

Clayton, I talked to one of the knowledgeable and friendly people at ATS. I originally called for something other than the trans stuff, but we did discuss them. I asked him if doing the VB first and later adding the TC was doable. He said the Stock TC would benefit from higher line pressure, although the VB would have to be specially built. When it comes time to install the TC, he said they would tell me which ports to open and which ones to close to bring the pressures up to where they need to be for the ATS TC. If you are mechanically adept, swapping the VB is easy enough. From what the Gentleman said, modifying the VB was extremely simple. I do want to put a TST PMCR box on my truck, but I full well realize I need to upgrade the TC, VB and add their Commander to make the Trans live. I will probably wait and do all three at once. Also thinking of either using the ATS exhaust manafold or building a Stainless header. Not sure if the time invested in building a header is worth $600 that I can spend for the ATS man.

Has anybody swapped out there torque converter first and then did the valve body later? I think I need the TC first cause mine is slipping and I don't want it to go and have to redo my whole transmission.
