Electronic Engine in Repower?

Hey guys,

I found this sweet truck o ebay right now,and I am wondering could I just swap my engine into this, and take the wiring from my truck, and have it work. I ask because The interior in thsi truck is in great shape, and is red. My interior in my 92 is blue, and would clash with the rear interior. My truck now is a NV4500 equipped 2wd,so I would have to modifiy my transmission,or get a new one to make it work, but that isn't too bad. Is the wiring for the Cummins a seperate harness so I could just use it in the cab of the gasser truck?Oh yeah here is the link. I have no idea what this truck is worth or waht it will go for,but if there is anyone in the area, could you have a look at it for me?

I hope that link works.

I bet his reserve is $10k. Plus all the way across the country. Although thats where all the good ones are located, and if you want one, unfortunately thats where we gotta go get them.

Save a bunch of time and $$$$ today won with highest bid but reserve not met. now I need to figure out what to do with my newly aquired 98 12v std beat up work truck

Have you heard from the seller? Is he going to sell it at that price,or re-list it?I still really want it,but I want someone to look at it first. It is a sweet truck though in pictures, but they can sometimes be deceiving. Congrats on the new ride,I am jelous you won it,and not me.

Chris

He wants 13k... very proud of his 440 newly rebuilt engine... I don't think he liked the idea of it on my shop floor though... . I guess he has close to 4k into engine rebuild???

Good looking 1st gen... . who knows that 440 and 11 ish MPG. Probably don't do much worse when loaded, and with the price descrepency between gas and diesel right now... who knows. . awww never mind!!

I actually thought about maybe just keeping the 440 in it,and selling my Cummins. I really want to stay diesel powered, but with the way I use my truck now it doesn't really even make sense. I was going to pull the lift kit out of it if I bought it,and go back to stock height with normal sized tires, and wheels. $13K is a little out of sight though for that truck I think. I think the guy is trying to make back all the money he has spent on it,which ain't gonna happen. I wonder if he is going to re-list it with a more reasonable reserve price?Too bad it is so far away. It is a sweet looking ride though.

This truck was also advertised in the local paper for the 13k that was mentioned. Are you guys looking for the Crew Cabs in the 2x4 or 4x4 flavors. I have access to several 2x4's in a variety of colors and options.

I want a crew cab period,I don't care if it is two wheel drive or four wheel drive. I just need one that is in good shape for my conversion. I guess I have become used to the long bed,but maybe a short bed would be a better option for parking ease,,and overall manuverability.

Chris

Hey Chris,

I have two 2x4's (long beds) and I know where there are two more, infact one is a short bed step side.

Also, a friend of mine just picked up a 84 shortbed 2x4 and he is finishing up his 4x4 shortbed conversion to sell. Between the two of us we have tons of parts. I'll have to get some pictures for you.

Going by your signature, if you have any of them in Florida, I know someone interested in a 2x4 crew cab locally here in Alabama. Let me know if you've migrated here for the winter with any of your prospects.

Looking at your photos in your ID page, I am guessing most of them are in the Northwest. Almost looks like Montana from the brown grass. :D

Thanks for the info mrpbody. If you can get me pictures that would be great. I know you sent me some pics of the white long bed you have in FL. I even emailed you about it being listed on classiccartraderonline, and it being listed in WA instead of FL. I really like my long bed now,but I think a short bed with the long cab will put me around the same length as my ong bed club cab. Also the 2wd will be easier to convert for me as my 92 is 2wd now,and I have a NV4500 already swapped in. Pics would be great. I am really thinking about doing a conversion as I don't drive much, but I need to haul 2 kids soon, and go camping so the diesel really helps in the towing department.

Hey DKarvwnaris

Hey that’s pretty good, the trucks on the trailer are from Great falls, Montana, your neck of the woods and the white one is in Pensacola Florida, and it is a nice one. I bought it 2 years ago while I was down visiting family. I planned to use this truck for my conversion but decided it was too nice to cut up, plus I paid too much to get it so, I am just trying to resell it for what I paid for it. It also came out of Montgomery, if I remember correctly it was an old DOT truck.

Chris,

Originally his was a 2x4 but he converted it to a 4x4, it is still a gas rig though. He just bought a 4x4 CTD truck with a dead Getrag so he going to use this truck and do another crew cab, and that’s why this one is being sold.

I will PM his email to you and you can chat with him directly. At this point I don't know what he wants for it or how complete or incomplete it will be sold and when it will even go on the market. He just got the other crew cab on Tuesday, and he is still trying to sort things out still.

Look in my readers rigs in the for sale section, I have one picture and I will put in there. I was transporting some wheels and I stopped by to see what his truck would look like with them installed.

Something looked far too familiar about that scenery. There is definitely something about Great Falls and its brown grass that makes it recognizable any time I see it. :D

Do you have a price on the Pensacola crew cab? I will email the link to my wife's co worker who is looking for one. It is still gas correct?... . He wants the same engine I have in my '96 CTD, not a 1st generation.

Hmm, how do I answer this, okay, it’s kinda like this, yea, the standard cab dually is pretty nice, and it runs nice too, but it really needs paint to be real nice.

I have justified gutting it as this. As we all know to build a project you have to make many trips to the several wrecking yards to go digging through trucks to find the parts you need for what your working on, or you have to continuously scan the local classified papers to find people parting out trucks of the right years that have the parts you are looking for in good shape, or find them at on-line auctions, and several other places, and have them shipped in providing they are not too large of an item.

The truck was a trade-in at a car dealer and the price was reasonable, it has everything that I need and then some and will cut most of my running around and searching down to almost nothing. And besides it’s a standard cab, isn’t that what they were built for, parts trucks for the crew cabs. :-laf Hope I don’t get flamed too much on that one. :D

Couldn't agree with you more, the resale on the standard cabs is low, for obvious reasons. I have yet to meet anyone who wants a standard cab truck besides parts delivery rigs. Its a perfect donor, you can easily sell the remaining parts to justify any lost balance of equity. The rear end of a dually is a hard to find item, especially for a diesel gearing wise.

Real trucks trade their spark plugs for two more doors :D
