Hey guys, I took my new Raptor 5er out last weekend & love it, great r. v. Im selling my 28ft Bounder now & was thinking of swiping the hydro elec. levelling jacks from it & putting them on the trailer for convienence. Not concerned about the fab work as thats pretty much my deal anyway. The way I see it the kit probably wont bring me much more money & the convienence would be awesome. Any thoughts ? Id hate to sell & regret not doing so. I cant really think of any negatives here, can you ? Thanks--Proflow

I suspect that fifth-wheel trailers are more rigid than a tag-along, but there is a down-side to using jacks to level your trailer.



Trailers are made to be leveled side-to-side by raising either side of the axle, usually by driving onto blocks. Fore-and-aft level is adjusted by using the tongue jack.



If you jack a trailer at a corner with an auxiliary jack, or even if you use a built-in stabilizer jack to level a trailer, you will rack the frame. That is, the frame will no longer be straight, since the trailer was built resting on the axles and the tongue jack.



The result is that the door will often bind up and not open or close properly. I suspect that if your trailer has a slide-out, it may not operate properly either.



Before you go to the trouble of switching those jacks, try jacking your trailer at the points where you would install them. If everything still works okay, then go for it. Don't be surprised, though, if you find a few problems.
