Sunday being race day (my first), I thought I'd try one more thing to get EGTs down as much as possible. The BHAF was due for a change ($54 now at NAPA) so I went for the AFE, hoping the shield between the filter and turbo would help.

Only test drive has been from home to work this morning. First, the turbo whine is Even Louder - which I happen to like but others of you considering this change may not. Second, my perception is that peak EGTs are not significantly lower, but when letting off the throttle, they cool down noticably faster. I say "perception", because this is hard to measure. With Comp on 5x5 (see mods in sig), a WOT uphill run will put the needle to 1500 degrees in 5 or 6 seconds from the time I start to build boost.

In looking at this, the shield doesn't block all the way to the firewall. It would be hard to do, what with all the wiring harnesses, AC tubes, etc. But I wonder if closing off more of that 3 or 4 inch gap would help? I suspect that's where most of the turbo heat would feed back into the intake. Has anybody ever modified the hole in the fender wall where the stock airbox sucked outside air from? I wonder if enlarging or otherwise modifying it would encourage more cool air flow.
