Gentlemen:: I have a,, automatic 03 ho dodge ram diesel::41,000 miles on it... I would like to install a fass fuel system on the frame somewhere, in lieu of going into the fuel tank. . Here's my problem,,,i want to install the pump with some sort of switching arrangememnt, so i can switch between the pump that came with the truck and the new fass systemm 1. Can this be done... ... 2... . how... . 3... where phisically??? 4. . What do i need for parts and tools... I called geno's and they didnt know if the switching was possible,, they do have the pump... i have a diesel mechanic available to do the work. . i know this is asking a lot,, but my wife and i are in our later years and we love the truck. . we just don't want to get left on the side of the road and also have to install a pump inside of the fuel tank... thanks for your input... . radar doctor... ... .

Although my truck is a second generation, I did what you are talking about. Here is the thread with a few pics. the only thing I did not do was wire the pumps with a switch. I have to be under the truck to throw the valves anyway and it takes only a moment to unplug the FASS and plug in the stock pump. It has been flawless in the two years since I did it. I switch over every couple of months just to run the other pump.

THANK YOU ( ALL NEW TO ME)) I might use your thread for refference later. . I'D LIKE ANOTHER VIEW ON A 03 INSTALLATION IF AVAILABLE... . OR A LATER MODEL... . SURELY THERE IS SOMEONE OUT OF 40,000 MEMBERS IN TDR THAT HAVE DONE A FASS FUEL FILTER DESIGN ON A 03 OR LATER MODEL USING A SWITCH FOR TRANSFER OF THE FUEL TO A PUMP. . I'D LIKE TO USE THE FASS, THEN IF IT FAILS,,, GO BACK TO THE STOCK FILTER VIA A SWITCH. . I AM NOT A MECHANIC BUT HAVE ONE LINED UP IF I CAN GET SOME SUGGESTIONS ON HERE... I'M OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS K0WPM DOC... .

You can buy electric solenoid valves that allow the switching of fuel tanks with a switch, and this could be combined with the fuel pump power supply so that one switch would do both, similar to changing tanks in a Ford with dual tanks.

I did'nt see the need to get that complicated because the FASS is reliable. It isn't something you would have the need to do that often unless you just want to have the ability to do so.

Call TDR Member LMills(Lloyd Mills)at Mid-Atlantic Diesel Performance and he can give you an idea of how he did his. Lloyd runs a AirDog pump on his with a Walbro as a secondary in case of issues on his 05 truck.

I have some photo's of a FASS mounted on a 2nd gen truck if you want them to look at as I run a 150/200-1010@45psi on mine. They will give you an idea of how they mount and how the hoses run. If you want them posted let me know and I will do that later for you.

I never actually thought much about a back-up fuel system until this week when for a reason beyond us the motor on my FASS quit. If I would have had a secondary system I could have just switched over and kept going and not need the rollback to bring my truck home. I will be doing some kind of secondary system on mine ASAP as I do not want to have that happen again.

Let me know what you need or if I can help... ..... Andy

Fass Pump

Doc

We have the fass pump on our 03, it mounts to the frame. I had it done but did not do any system to have a back up.

Will say that you will hear the Fass when it runs. As soon as you turn the key on it starts. So far so good.

All our best to you and your wife. :)
