Sylvania SilverStar Headlamps

Has anyone tried Sylvania SilverStar headlamps yet? If so, what do you think and did you have a problem with the bulbs burning the lens cover?

I've got them... I installed them during the day, and when I put the first one in, I turned the headlights on to compare them... couldn't really tell a difference... went ahead and installed the other one...



but... at night, I can tell a noticable difference... much "whiter" light. I like them!



they won't hurt the lenses... don't confuse color temperature with actual temperature!

Which model number did you install? I looked at the "computer" next to the lights, it said 9004, but I don't completely trust those model numbers.

I've had them in since last May, I like them, but have had 4 of them blow, and not from touching the glass. Auto Zone has replaced 2 of them. If they keep blowing, I don't know if I will keep using them or not.

well, I was careful not to touch the glass... if these blow, I'm not paying $19 a bulb to replace them!



I think these are 9004 bulbs... there are only a few bulbs out there... just pull one of your old ones and compare it. (there SHOULD be a bulb application catalog or computer right there at the store) but 9004 sounds right

I've used overpowered 'blue' style bulbs since the truck was new and have not melted the buckets yet I am watching this thread as I've never been real happy with the illumination near the truck and hope good 'white' bulbs will be better...



I did on the other hand melt a tail light with hidden strobes this past summer when at an accident scene for over an hour. Real bummer

Silverstars

These pictures are not from a DOdge, but a Toyota. You can see there is a big defference. I have had them for over a year without any problems. They are same wattage as stock.

What would happen if a Brite Box were on the truck and someone installed Silverstars. In that case, on high beam both elements would be illuminated at the same time. Is anybody running that scenario?

Hey, Robert, I've the same question. (My Brite Box went on the day Santa dropped it off. ) I've a call in to Abbott with this question. (I think they're on an extended holiday break. ) As soon as I get a response from them, I'll post it here.

Well, that didn't take long! Abbott called me back a moment ago. They said that Silverstars are just fine with the Brite Box. 'Told me that PIAAs are also OK, but he personally thinks they're a bit pricey. Some of their employees use Silverstars and one guy has the extra $$$$ for the PIAAs and apparently neither bulb has given anyone any problems.

I'm running the Silverstars in both my headlamps (9007s) and my fog lights (9006s, if I recall correctly). The specs for the bulbs are in the Owner's Manual, by the way...



While still not great on high beam, it'sd definitely an improvement over stock. Low beam works great, when used in conjunction with the fog lights. I'm considering the addition of some after market lights to be used in conjunction with the brights (maybe Hella?)...

Say, I used to live YOUR neck of the woods - Huntington Harbor. 'Dated a real sweety from Santa Monica and spent a lot of time there. Now THAT's a nice town! The lessons of the '93 Mississippi (and Missouri) River floods weren't lost us on us when we relcated here from Tulsa, so we bought in higher grounds for that very reason. The Little Blue shouldn't be bothering us...

ARGH!!! Where's my brain? I'm getting my manufacturers crossed up - it's Baker I talked with about the bulbs, notAbbott. Abbott I had spoke with about their ERA that I just installed "in support of" the new, larger tires I'm gettin in February. My duh.

FWIW, the Silverstars and Piaas are the same wattage as factory..... niether will get any hotter then regular Halogens. As far as the Brite Box, use it at your own risk since you are doubling the temperature in the headlight. This is not meant to bash the Brite box since I have never owned one, just wanted to point it out.



Also, after owning 5 sets of Piaas in two different cars, I will never own another set again because of 10 bulbs... ... 7 didn't last longer then 6 months. So far have almost a year on a Silverstar with no problems. Oh, and they are slightly, (and I mean ever so slightly) brighter then the Piaas.
