Just ordered a fuel pressure gauge from Genos garage. Is this going to give me warning of low pressure and hopefully avoid my vp44 from going down?

And if I don't have the gauge do I have some symptoms or warning?? baron

Plenty of symptoms, but none of them show up before the VP44 damage is done. By the time you see the symptoms, it's usually too late.

They include white smoke, stumbling, intermittent dead pedal, missing at idle, missing under load, and a 0216 code in the ECM.

You can do a volume flow test on your LP to see if it is 'healthy' by Cummins standards without a gauge. Click here for the TSB details on the test.

Make sure when calculating ounces you measure liquid volume, not weight. A good way to check volume is to get an old gallon milk jug, measure out the prescribed ounces, and pour into the jug. Mark the minimum level with a permanent marker, rinse and dry, then test away. Empty and reseal the jug for next time. Much less messy than trying to measure the diesel volume.
