Without removal, what driving characteristics can we expect when the air filter clogs?

Poor power, poor throttle response, poor fuel mileage, reduced acceleration, reduced top end, increased exhaust gas temperatures , hard starting, poor idle quality, frequent stalls, excessive exhaust smoke

The later models have a filter minder but I never saw the one on my 99 move. The one on current truck does seem to work. I would think some smoke, lower power, definitely higher egt's and poor fuel mileage would be some of the things you woud see with a partially plugged air filter. bg

I got the Amsoil drop-in nanofiber air filter, it is re-usable. I just blow it out with my air compressor when I am doing maintenance work. I live on a dirt road, lots and lots of dust all the time, so I am constantly blowing it out. My filter minder has never moved so I do not know how reliable it is, but my filter HAS been dusty and needed cleaning. The first thing you would notice is a decrease in fuel mileage, higher egt's, smoke and lessening of power.
