Is anyone out there using royal purple in there nv4500? Can you notice a difference in shift smoothness, immediatly after the switch from the syn torq, and if so what viscosity royal purple did you use? I know first hand, royal purple is an amazing product, but is is better than syn. torq.

I run Pennzoil Synthetic 75w90 in my dad's 4500... it is MUCH better than the OE syntorque. I would expect the RP to do as good or better with my experience with their 85w140.

I think it made a noticeble difference in shifting, right away. Went from factory fill to a valvolene product, to the RP. RP is the best so far. All were factory spec viscosity. 75-90, isnt it?

um... . the factory spec for the NV4500 is 5w30 I believe. Good luck with synco longevity running 75w90.

I use AMSOIL synthetic in both of mine and I couldn't be happier

Umm, 5w30 "motor oil" weight is the spec'd oil for the NV5600... get your facts right. It is a 70W90 gear oil.

The correct weight for a NV4500 is a 75w90 gear oil or 15w40 "motor oil" weight IIRC.

Gear oil and motor oil "weights" are two different things.

i was getting the occasional crunch if i tried to get too sporty with it so about 10k ago i drained the god knows what out of mine and filled with rp 75w90, over the next couple days it kept getting better, i guess as it whipped the syncros back in to shape, now i can shift as fast as i want with no problems or noise, no idea how many miles this box has on it as it's got junkyard paint markings on it

Thats the stuff I use right there.

And that's the wrong fluid for the NV4500 IIRC... that is the correct fluid for a NV5600 and also what I run in my NV5600.

The NV4500 requires a slightly heavier oil... search on this board and you will see what I mean. I know that Redline has both a MTL and MT-90. The MTL is the NV5600 fluid while the MT-90 is the NV4500 fluid.

I'm not sayin your wrong steved. Thats just what I use and works great for me.

Had it in both of my 4500's for about a combined 200k miles.
