Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Where to begin??

So I ordered some Carli coil springs from Poly Performance (the Hemi ones as that is what our 2nd gen trucks use, right?). I get a call from Poly a couple days later asking if I would be willing to instead try Synergy, which the guy says is the Poly house brand. He claims the Synergy springs are made by the same manufacturer as Carli uses and with similar specs, so I am going to give them a shot and install them with some Rancho 9000s I have waiting.

Anybody else have any experience with Synergy?

So if I understand this correctly a Carli dealer is knocking off his coils then redirecting a customer who asked for Carli coils to their knock offs?

The Ranchos may not be enough shock except for easy driving since the coils will have a lighter than stock spring rate

I don't know about the springs, but you definately want to go with a quality mono-tube shock like bilstein or edlebrock. Ranchos were big in the 80's. They are a cheaper twin-tube design. Just my . 02. Please keep us updated on the springs. Good luck

Problem is, no one really makes a dedicated coil spring for the 2nd gens.
The 3rd gens are about 500lbs heavier in front (the 4th gens heavier still) so Carli's third gen springs too stiff (as are the others). I had a set of hemi springs on my 01 and the softer initial rate coil at the bottom is always collapsed and coil bound. This means the higher rates are in use at all stages of travel and they feel a little stiff (compared to my 06 with Carli springs). Plus, they sag to about 1. 5-2. 0 inches of lift. I changed to Don Thuren's soft rate coils (which are the softest 3rd gen coils) and there was definite improvement in the square edged pot holes (my nemesis). But I got about 3. 5 inches of lift (with ARB bumper and winch) which is a little more than I'd like, but it'll do. Lorenz has a soft rate coil also, but I don't know where the spring rate would be compared to above. I would not recommend any other "off brand" coils. They are made to sell, not perform.

Yep. This is what I was offered. I haven't installed them yet, so it will be awhile before I know how they'll work. I update later once they have been used for a bit.

As for the Rancho 9000, they were "an offer I couldn't refuse". Also, I know a couple of trucks with them and the owners are happy, so we'll see.

If you are not happy with the Edelbrock shocks I know Don Thuren is working on a good white body type shock for daily driving but works with the lighter spring rates. Dont even bother trying his website just give him a call if your intrested.
