"Arguably, a good synthetic could be better than conventional oils, but the areas in which it excels aren't necesarily areas that are critical to engine operation. "

Interesting point I've mentioned myself a few times - one thing *I* have routinely noticed in oil analysis reports, is that those I have seen routinely are as high and HIGHER in wear metals than a good quality dino oil - all things being generally equal in terms of mileage and workload.

And to be specific, I refer to a truck driven 5000 miles on dino oil as compared to another similar truck driven the same miles and general service with synthetic - frequently, the synthetic will show a higher ppm of iron, aluminum and chrome than the dino oil will - watch a few and see what I mean (NO, I don't intend to go back thru the archives to provide "proof" - already DONE that to my own satisfaction!) ;)
