Hello,i've got a 1999 with 70,000 miles. To get the longest life out of my first diesel,is my mileage to high to continue from now on with synthetic or just change oil a little sooner than normal. Thanks for any suggestions.
I switched from Delo 400 dino oil to Amsoil synthetic at 32K miles, have 71K total now. 70K miles on one of these engines that has been properly maintained is nothing. As long as the engine has been properly maintained, and it's still running, I would not think it is ever too late to change over to synthetic oil.
I'm no oil or lubrication expert, but I can't believe switching over at your mileage will have any draw backs.
I changed around that same milage. To account for any unusual "cleaning" that might occur from the new synthetic oil and the few if any deposits left from your previous oil, I dumped the first run of synthetic oil at around 6K. After that, I started sampling every 6K (new filter) and dump around 24K. I got my moneys worth at that point.
Several of these engines have gone a million+ miles with Shell Rotella T 15W40. The real question is; Will the rest of the truck last as long as the engine, even if I am beating on the engine?
