What are you using?

How long before oil and filter changes?

Would you swap to synthetic after 59,000 mile on DINO oil?

If yes Do you think it will cause the seals to LEAK?

Thanks!!1

Will change to the A word at 15k. I'm at 11k now. It wont cause any leaks. My last Dodge Cummin I changed over at 90k and MY old 85 chevy Caprice(305) I changed over at 90k and it has 200k now. On my diesel I change oil and filter at 12k intervals and NO filter change in the middle. 15w40 "A" marine&diesel oil. My car I change filter every 7500 and oil ever 25k

I run Amsoil Series 3000, 5w-30 and last weekend average 21. 5 mpg at 70 mph, for almost 300 miles on a trip.

I'll probably change it every 10k regardless of recommendations etc...

Now that I have this Quadzilla box, they say it will add up to 3 mpg... . 24????

I forgot a question. I live in South Louisiana temperatures get to 95 and rarely below 32. Should I use the 5w-40. The reason I ask is I really like Rotella and they only make a synthetic in 5W-40. I feel that is awful thin. Any others in hot climates using 5W-40

OK so as long as it has the 40 I am good. Sounds like it would be thinner being 5W-40 versus the 15W-40. I might use the Rotella next time 12. 97 per gallon @ WAL-MART. I just really lik ethe ROtella products. Used them in a lot of farm equip. over the years.

valvoline synthetics

talking to a cummins tech here in san diego and he's seeing the bigger diesels, (Rv's) comming out of the factory with valvoline synthetics.

Valvoline is the brand of choice for Cummins. i guess they even label thier oil with the Cummins logo.

Yeah but doesn't 5W-40 sound awful thin? Especially, here in the south where the temp gets around 95 degrees and 100% humidity.

Go ahead and switch.

If you want the Premium stuff, go with the Redline 15w-40. It's a mere $30 a gallon! But it's great stuff. i am switching back.

Redline probably is the best High-temp oil because it uses ester base stocks, not PAO. that's also why it's so $$.

Don't expect to save money on the Redline, no matter how far you extend drains. it's not an investment. It's a luxury.

For your information.

5W-40, 10W-40, 15W-40 are all the same "viscosity" at the operating temperature, taken at 100 C. Even if the lower numbers are 5W,10W, and 15W, they are not linear.

ie. 15W is not 3 times heavier than 5W oils.

0W has to have a minimum 3. 8 cSt@100 C.

5W has to have a minimum 3. 8 cSt@100 C.

10W has to have a minimum 4. 1 cSt@100 C.

15W has to have a minimum 5. 6 cSt@100 C.

40 grade oil has to be between 12. 5 cSt@100 C. and 16. 3 cSt@100 C.

Go with the synthetic!

Go ahead and use the 5w/40 synthetic of your choice. I run mine in Mexico all winter so the hot temps are no problem. The truck actually runs a little cooler (looking at the temp guage) with 5w/40 synthetic then it did with 15w/40 dino oil. Especially pulling a load (travel trailer) the synthetic seems to keep things cool. Less friction I guess.

I run Delo 400 5w40 year round in So. Cal. I routinely tow in 100+ degree temperatures. Oil analysis comes back perfect at 15,000 mile oil changes with LF3894 filter. No leaks. No makeup oil added. Stock everything.
