Rust on your Rig in the Rust Belt??????

precooler any one try it?

I have a 1993 2wd cummins with 196K on it I was thinking about changing from 15w-40 regular oil to synthetic Amsoil. Some one told me you do not want to do that with a motor with that kind of milage they said it would start leaking and you want to stay with what it is used to running on. Does any one have any first hand experiance with this subject. Thanks

Listen to the person who told to stick to real oil, (the oil it's been running on). With that many miles and 15 years old, synthetic oil will slip through the seals.

Welcome to TDR, it's a great place to be.

The only difference in synthetics and conventional oils is the base. In order to meet the standards found on the donut is to send the base oil to a lab and get them to add additives. In my opionion you are safe as long as you use the type listed for your truck. Most of what we read about oil is hype. Read the last three issues of TDR magazine.

You will not damage anything with synthetic oil. If your truck starts to develop oil leaks after you start running it, then you should switch back to keep from dripping oil everywhere but if it doesn't, keep running it.

I switched at 190k and haven't had a single problem. It makes a huge difference in the winter for me.
