Synthetic Rotella T

Yesterday when I changed the oil in my truck, I noticed the smell of the new Rotella T synthetic was worse than normal. Almost had a burned smell to it. I know Rotella has a definite odor and have used both the synthetic and dino in the past and have never noticed it smelling this bad. The odor in the cab is almost over powering at the present. Anyone else noticed this and any ideas how to get rid of the smell?

I have a problem with the smell too.

According to a member here who saw it on another website there were some bad batches of Rotella with rotten egg smell. Shell said not to use it but to bring it back for a refund.



I checked on Rotella's website for news releases but there were no notices http://www.rotella.com/press/index.html



I tend to believe it was just a rumor and that's why the thread can't be found.

I talked to shell today and they said that there has been a bad batch of rotella t synthetic. They said that there initial samples show that there is nothing wrong with the oil except for the odor, but since they don't know what will happen several thousand miles down the road they are recommending changing the oil and filter. They are sending me the information needed to get reimbursed for the cost of the oil and filter.

Wow, Rotella Synthetic! We don't have that around here.



Deal is, they put too much "perfume" in the synthetic to give it that lovely DINO-tella SMELLA!

Got the refund in the mail today for the "off odor" sythetic rotella t and the cost of an oil filter from Geno's. No questions asked just had to send in the reciept for the oil, where purchased, and the lot number from the jug. For the filter i just printed a the web page from geno's showing the stratapore filter and price. Didn't have to return the oil, was just asked to dispose of properly.

I changed my oil a while back and the smell that is usually has for teh first 50 miles or so stayed around for about 500.

This stuff had a real bad odor. Not the usual Rotella T smell. It was almost enuff to make you sick.
