BS,

I have been using the synthetic (Amsoil ATF) for 4 years going on 5. I have used it in all our vehicles with an automatic, and have had great results. The truck is the easiest to gage those results by. First thing I noticed is I dropped the operating temperature by almost 40 degrees, that is substantial! I have a temperature sensor in the pan, and it is a valid reading, nothing else was changed. Also while towing it stays very cool, usually it Hoovers around 160-170. And is in the 140 range while empty.

Wear seems to be reduced, the filter are much cleaner with the synthetic. I think everyone has to do their own thing, with there own truck. So I do not care if you use synthetic or not, I don't sell it or any thing else, I just answer questions the best I can. The stuff has worked well for me, I use Amsoil in everything with a engine that includes, 2-trucks,2-cars,3-quads,1-mower,1-gas welder,1-weed eater. I also use there product in 3 air compressors, and several hydraulic pieces.

Prairie Dog,

Thanks for the info! Can you tell me what other parts of the truck that is using synthetic? Front/rear diff. etc. Also, I wonder if other readers know this?

I'm sure your answers are listed in the owners manual. They're in the '03 versions.

FWIW, I'm running amsoil throughout the truck.

Y-not, what oil do uo run in your air compressors and how often do you change it?

I'm a framing contractor and have worn out several compressors over the years that i probably could have made last much longer.

Amsoil ATF in a 1998 Dodge 1500 slt and 1985 chevy caprice. The Caprice has a serta trans installed at 80k and amsoil atf in it then and now has 201k. Flushed every 60k with new filter every other flush. No debris to speak of in pan ever. Amsoil motor oil in car,1500 truck and a New Holland tractor. Soon to be in my 2003 Cummin. In both diffs of Chevy and 1500 tr and 12 plus gallons of Amsoil hyd. oil in New Holland tractor. In the tractor EVERY THING from lift to brakes to clutch(all wet)worked better in ALL temps compared to factory fluid with DOUBLE the change interval. Best yet is ITS DELIVERED to MY DOOR by a BIG BROWN TRUCK. (UPS):D

On the compressor oil, it would depend on what the owners manual recomends. Compressors have a ISO or SAE rating, about like car and truck engines have. Amsoil makes about 5-6 different compressor oils, I usually use the ISO 46,SAE 20. It seems to work fine and is available in quart bottles.

Regarding the compressor sythentic. I changed our 15HP 2 stage to Amsoil and eliminated a moisture problem. I believe is lowered the temp of the pump enough to help reduce the condesation in the piping entering our plant. The water problem is all gone!.
