So if I buy from Geno's and install myself the redesign Geno part number water pump, what is my warrenty on that. And if it fails and hurts the motor who is libel..If I go to my dealership and have them install the T-51 redesigned water pump is this warrenty different to me installing.I say this because I am assuming the dealership installed pump will be at least 3/36,000 miles.Because this is not a remanufactured pump.It is a complete redesign. And what if the part number for the pump from Geno's is differant than that of the recalled pump number call-out.I say this too because the orginal WP design from Cummins was 5,50,000 miles. So I should expect this as well from a new design.

I would assume that Bob4x4 and Sag2 has seen the maintence recall instruction of the T-79,and what FCA is warranting, and billing and the part number's which have been posted by them...But yes any effected by the recall.

I think that if you do the pump yourself, FCA isn't going to warranty that part because the new warranty on just the part would be between you and whatever vendor (you said in this case, Geno's) that you purchase the pump from. Also, if the replacement you install fails and causes other damage, you'd probably be on the hook for that as well. If FCA installs the pump at the dealer, then it's and the rest of the engine covered by whatever warranty your truck is covered by if it were to fail. I feel your pain, my Challenger is in right now for the alternator recall and I had to wait several months for parts to become available. My Ram is waiting for the parts on the water pump and I also think the transmission is got a recall on it too.

Not all trucks get a new water pump, it is an inspection and replace if needed. Just had the recall done on my 14 last Sat., did not need replacing.

If your pump looks like this it WILL be replaced! The shaft will be flush to end of pulley and then will be a rough casting on the entire tapered surface.

The pic is of mine.

The warranty on all individual parts is 2 years from purchase date. If you wait to install, I think that the warranty is ticking away.

But you still have full power train warranty up to 5 years/100k from truck purchase date.

A part replaced during the warranty period doesn’t extend the warranty. You need to take your truck in to be inspected if it is listed in the recall. Some states will not allow a vehicle to be registered with an open safety recall.I h ave never seen a part warranty that covers consequential damage.

Bob,just a update from my service manager after the T-51 is completed,FCA gives 2/24,000 on the pump plus any related damages cause by the failed pump if it occurs again. They look at your remaining powertrain coverage and give you the better of the 2,so if you have 3 years left on factory then the pump is covered for 3 years instead of 2 years.

Recalls are handled differently than warranties and not all recalls are even handled the same

I don't know where he got that info as it does not say anything like that in the recall. All mopar parts carry a minimum of a 12/12,000 mile warranty or the remaining factory warranty for the part, whichever is greater. There are only a couple parts that have some other type of written warranty.

Thanks for the correction on warranty.

Sag2,Bob.....So Mopar Basic Limited Warranty says were 1) FCA US LLC dealer installed pump will get 2 years/unlimited miles parts and labor coverage, plus any related damage to other parts, plus tow to the nearest FCA LLC US dealership were as the 2) "Do-it-yourselfer" gets 2 years and unlimited miles for 24 months, but only the water pump is cover, and no other parts are included nor is there a free tow plus no labor credit. 3) If a certified ASI Tech installed recalled water pump gets you a new part plus 150.00 in labor cost, and no fluid replacement is covered...It say nothing on related damage if the pump overheats the motor or worst a fire if the 2 or 3 does install....This was a print out from the parts dept manager because people have been coming in asking to buy the pump and do the recall themselves because of the wait time involved.Rumor is only 6 at a time then reorder. The T-54 recall instruction to the tech does not say this, sorry if my explaination confused anyone. My point was does a Do-it-yourself get a better warranty or extended coverage of parts damaged by another failed water pump under recall, compared to a dealer installed FCA recall letter water pump. Also after the recall has been entered it looks at remaining warranty on truck and applies the better of the 2 warranties to the owner. So I assume if you do install the pump you need to report this to a dealer so that it can be entered in the V.I.N History,to find what your coverage is on this new water pump.

If you install the pump it does not CLEAR the recall. If you install a new style pump the dealer will inspect the truck and close the recall
