Thinking that it is time to upgrade my T/C and V/B and I would like to know what I can expect from this. I have read post about those who have bombed their truck then replaced the T/C and V/B. But I don't recall any posts about just those who did the T/C and V/B only.

What was the new stall/flash point?

What are the shifts like?

What in the reduction in cruse RPM?

Any gain in economy?

What about the out of the hole performance?

Anybody have 1/4 mile times before and after?

And any other info you have that might help me in my upgrade decisions

Thank you

Brian

You won't find too many who fit your question because most of us have gone to the DTT upgrade after our transmission's started shuddering or outright frying our transmission's.

The latter was my case even though I already had upgraded to a DTT Valve Body.

I would have been better off replacing my transmission under warranty and then got the DTT V/B and T/C. Because I waited 'till I fried my transmission, it cost my more $$$$ to replace broken parts.

Anyway, my DTT transmission now is beyond awesome! Worth every $$$$ :)

Out of the hole will be somewhat slower with a tighter converter. I think that just a transmission would be a nice addition with only a few slight trade offs if it is properly set up. You may see slight increase in mileage. As far as the shifts, they can be setup from mild to a neck snaping slam. Just be careful that you dont get a transmission that is ment for high hp trucks or you might not be a happy camper!

What is the reduction in cruise RPM?

I BOMBed while in the process of the DTT upgrade, but I think the answer to your question above would be the same regardless. It should be the same since lock-up should be engaged in that situation.

I will say this, that at idle with the stock transmission, it takes a bit of throttle to get the truck to move. After upgrading, no additional throttle and at idle I’m traveling down the road at about 7-8 mph. And that is just one aspect of the change. The fluid coupling of the DTT TC is a phenomenal change over stock. :D

P. s I upgraded at less than 6K miles.

I went with the dTT upgrades

in my signature. I would recommend this to anyone with an auto. It's like driveing a different truck. It takes the slush out of the slush box. It wants to go and it goes, it's that simple.

LOL

I put my DTT transmission upgrade in at 15,000 miles. The only thing I noticed is it puts more horsepower to the rear wheels. I also noticed that the engine takes longer to cool down at stop. (more load on motor) I Love It! I am on my way to 400 HP P. S. I didnt lose any MPGs

stock truck

i still have a stock truck with the dtt tc vb and up grade kit.

the truck does take more to get it going but i also increased my tire size from 245 to 285's. so i think that also contributed to the slowness. the shift points are much firmer. which is ok. but they seem to be later than i'm used too. there is a box that you can use to change the voltage for the shift pionts. the shift points were very late now i have the voltage at 5. 0 v which is higher that what their instruction say to set it at. when i called bill he

said that very few trucks that he deals with are stock. and suggested getting the edge ez that i want to get asap. i hope to have this soon. the only other issue is my when i acclerate to pass there is a 4-5 second delay before the engine will kick down.

i didn't have this problem before and it could be related to a lack of power issue or rpm problem. will wait as see what happens with ez and see if it will help.

good luck!

Duane, you paid what to slow down your truck and screw up the shift points? This does not make sense? Something is wrong with the upgrade. I would take it back to the installer and have them fix it. JMO

My '99 is a totally stock 3500 and have upgraded the VB, TC (91%) and purchased the Smart Controller. Bill K did the upgrade of 3rd gear and a total rebuild of the transmission, although there was nothing wrong when with the stock one when removed. For the most part I am happy. Especially when pulling my trailer. The exhaust brake works great with this combination. My only comment (dislike) is when the transmission down shifts into 3rd gear (47mph). The shift is harsh. Very harsh. Almost to the point of putting you against the seat belt. When towing, this is not a problem, probably due to the extra weight. I plan to take the truck back to Bill so he can experience the ride for I believe this shift is hard on the drive-line components.

As for mileage, empty freeway driving is high 19's (checked several fill ups against odometer) and sometimes over 20 mpg. Towing 10K horse trailer averages 13 - 15 mpg at 60-65 mph. Feel these ratings can be credited to the upgrade for it is an improvement.

Compared to the stock transmission the upgrade is like day and night. I would do it again, but hope to straighten out the harsh downshift to 3rd. All other gears shift fine both up and down.

I have a friend and fellow TDR member that has a stock 01 with a full DTT setup, that i put in,as far as he tells me,he loves, and would never go back. His was done for towing over the recommended weight, and for future mods /Ebrake down the road. Dave, you have a harsh 4-3 downshift, you must have the smart controller,it has to keep the TC locked,in order for the exhaust brake to work, this is why its harsh, mine does the same thing. I know its even in Bills pamphlet,it states exhaust brakes cause transmission wear. This is one of the reasons why.
