Well folks my T/C is hunting during lockup (3rd and 4th gear). With o/d locked out it wants to lockup in 3rd but it goes in and out until i ease out of the throttle. Same with 4th gear. Once t/c locked up it pulls well. Will try a TPS cleaning and line pressure cranked up 3-5psi.

trans mileage 116,000 all stock/ no mods yet! fluid change only 2000 miles old. (mopar atf 3)

any other suggestions???????

If not I guess I will send bill K on that long awaited vacation with the purchase of that DTT trans.

Food for thought..........

mdwyer,

My 99' just did something like that. In 3rd and 4th it would shift in and out at highway speeds. As long as you were taking off it was fine, but would shift back and forth at cruising speeds. I took it to a local dealer and had the transmission computer reflashed, pulls better than ever and takes off like it should have 112,000 miles ago. Have read some posts of guys with similar problems and the reflash didn't fix it, so not sure if it will or not. for $25. 00 it's cheap enough to try it and see. Good luck.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping a little. Mine does it if I really push the acceloration. Someday I'll order from Bill K - $$$$

suspect TPS first

mdwyer, I would suspect the TPS first. Try cleaning it with electrical contact cleaner. I got a can from Radio Shack. Get the kind that does not leave a residue. Some of the guys clean it on the truck but others have taken theirs off. If you take it off just remember it only goes on one way. You can put it on in reverse but you will break it as soon as you open the throttle. Spray in around where the shaft goes and work it back and forth. If this works then you are good to go for about a $10 can of cleaner which can be used many more times.

I talked to the diesel mechanic at the local Dodge dealer last week and he mentioned reflashing. This was in reference to a customer wanting it done. Apparently there two versions. One is the standard configuration. The other sets the 3-4 shift to about 53 MPH. His suggestion was to not do this as the system cannot later be redone to lower it to the original factory setting if the customer is not happy with the higher setting. He had done this for a customer who ultimately did not like either setting but was now stuck with the higher one. I don't know this one for a fact but this is what was said to me by the mechanic.

Best of luck, John
