98 1/2 24 valve automatic tourque conveter stuck after 100 mi in 95 degree heat at highway speeds ,would stall in drive at start but able to limp last of trip by manual shifting. Is this some type of sensor problem that can be flashed ? after 1 hour of cool down problem did not reapear for rest of trip 300 mi. need reply. -- email address removed -- thanks.

It may not be related, but I just had the Lock-Up/Overdrive Solenoid go bad on my '99 auto. It would not allow the transmission to go into lock-up at all. You could have this solenoid sticking in the other position (maybe it un-sticks when cooled?)? However, when my solenoid went bad, the entire circuit showed bad, and the transmission shut down completely. It went into a limp-mode (only had one gear and no lock-up).

Gotta love the engine - too bad the rest of the truck can't be as good!!!

Good luck

98. 5 starting problem , acts as if changed fuel filter ,cranks long time then fires up ,drives fine ,power good and economy good ,is a check valve in fuel devlivery line on side of engine that might be letting presure when off?

2nd posting 98. 5 starting problem , acts as if changed fuel filter ,cranks long time then fires up ,drives fine ,power good and economy good ,is a check valve in fuel delivery line on side of engine that might be letting pressure when off? unit cooled down for a hour and fires up correctly ,I am puzzled ...

Your post is hung on the end of an old post in 2001 about TC locking up may be the reason for no replies. I don't think there is a check valve in the line, I had a 99, your lift pump may have failed. If you have access to an old fuel pump pressure tester you can connect to one of the ports on top of the fuel filter housing and check the pressure. It only puts out about 12# max. The fittings on the filter are 1/8" pipe thread. bg
