Is it possible to splice the vacuum line that controls the transfer case? After removing my transmission I noticed that two of the lines had been cut some how. They are two that come from the firewall area over the trans (green/white?) and then the harness intercepts with and zip ties on the two (red/white?) that come from the metal lines on the crossmember, then they go to that rubber 4-hole plug that goes on top of the transfer case. Could those two be spliced some how, or is there a temporary fix, or is this a good time to install a 2-Low kit (not sure which lines are cut with that installation. I'm held up for now until Monday or Tuesday waiting for a rear output seal on the t-case, but would appreciate some guidance or assistance with this.

Thanks

Sure they can be spliced. As long as vacuum can flow through. I would install the 2lo switch. It is one of the best things I have done to my truck.

What I was curious on was the materials needed to splice the connections, didn't know what they were and if there was such a thing. And on the 2-lo switch, are these two lines that are split used? That would make it beneficial to install the kit at the same time.

most parts houses should have a drawer of emission parts that will have the needed fittings to make the repairs. I made my own 2lo switch. I plugged off the t-fittiing at the firewall, hook a line to the end of the vacuum manifold at the firewall ran it to my switch. Hooked the other side back to the vacuum line down to the t/case.

I find that when stuck in LA traffic that 4th lo is better than 1st high.

I've always used regular rubber vacuum line from the auto parts store, just pick a size that fits snug. I try to keep some in the truck for emergency repairs on the trail.

I was thinking of doing a 2 low mod by taking the hose that goes from the transfer case to the axle (the one not flowing when in 2wd) and cut it and hook a valve up into the cab. So if I want 2wd low, I just close off the valve and then put it into 4wd. Since the powered side of the air chamber is blocked off, the axle stays in 2wd..... that sound good?

I turn off the vacuum to the transfercase. Pretty sure your idea would work. The 2lo kit that piers sells i think redirects the vacuum so that it will pull the axle actuator off when ever you turn it off. Mine has to be in 4x4 for the actuator to move. That has not been a problem for me.
