Just passing along some feedback on my recent Crank Position Sensor change. Symptoms included a eratic loss of tach, check engine light, and limitation of power. Otherwise, truck ran normal.

So I read several threads and purchased the sensor from a local dealer ($64 - not bad). Starter needs to be removed - no problem with this step. Sensor is located inbetween the starter and the block - it's the only thing there. Then it started !

Sensor twisted/turned but would not pull out. It broke into smaller pieces which eventually led to the sensor being flush with the block. I drilled - and drilled - and drilled. Tapped the plastic and it broke away into smaller pieces. I'll cut to the chase - 6 hours !

My recommendations. Break the sensor out of the block into enough small pieces that you can pry out the rubber O-ring. With a hole drilled in the sensor, it actually prys out of the block.

Reinstallation was less than 15-minutes !

I'd still do the job again now that I know the pain.

You got off easy... ... ... ... it took me 2 days to get it out... ... . -20* degrees outside on my back in the ice covered driveway. If i remember right it was the same week the TDR issue came out with how to change it. After reading it I was under the inpression from the author it should have taken about 1hr. The hardest thing being pulling the starter... ... ... HA... ... ... that was the easiest part.
