A friend of mine just bought a 93 Club Cab Dually. He wants to put a tachometer in it. I have a factory tach in my 92 but they are no longer available. What are you guys using for tachs now?

Thanks, Rod

Cable drive tach

Cummins sells a cable drive adapter kit. It has a hex adapter to slide over the inj. pump drive nut,a carrer to hold it in place, a 90 degree gearbox to screw a speedo cable on to. To do this you have to get rid of the old oil fill set up but they give you a new valve cover with a oil fill hole and a cap. Its probly $200 and then you have to get a cable driven tach and a cable. Thats probly another $200. :--) Ihave this set up in my 90 CTD. I had an old tach and cable so i did not have to buy them. I saved the big box and all the small boxs that were in it. If you would like the part # I could see if there are ledgibale.

I've had a Banks tach for about 4 years now. No problems. As you may already know, most aftermarket tachs plug into existing factory installed wire harness under the dash.

I have TWO isspro tachs and neither one of them would work! Finally ended up getting a "Tiny Tach", just havn't gotten it installed yet.

Isspro

:) I'm using the Ispro that I got at Baxters Auto Parts in Portland that is a speed shop. The unit has dip switches in the rear to set for the cummins and plugs into the wiring under the dash. Works great. I built a aluminum mount and put it over by the ash tray and wired the light in. Tim

AutoMeter diesel Tach #2888

I'm running a nice Autometer diesel tach (5000rpm max), pn# 2888, and it works great. It is fed off of an impulse feed wire that straps onto the alternator. Pretty slick, only tricky part is that since there are different versions of alternators you have to have the tach calibrated. The back of the tach has a little dial switch that lets you fine tune the needle - I went to my local diesel shop and they had a portable temporary tach that just clips onto the front of the engine and you can hold it in your hand, run the engine, and dial it in. Works slicker than snot and looks great. I have a pic of it in my gallery - not sure how to link it directly, sorry.

Hope that helps.

- Sam
