Tach in '06

This morning on my drive home from work, I was traveling at 70 mph when my tach went up to 4g's than settle down at roughly 0, it will move up slightly but go no higher than about 1g. Where's a good trouble shooting starting point? Thanks... .

mine is toast, so is about a million others. From what i understand its caused by cold solder joints in the cluster. PITA and expensive to get fixed i also hear.

I believe there is a company that fixes them, but I don't recall their name right now...

Sounds like the common failure. On a side note, if anyone ever has one they're just going to toss out, I would like to get a hold it and try to reflow the joints but I have never seen the guts of one in person so there's always the chance I'll do more harm than good LOL. I was a weapon spec and aviation certified solderer for many years and worked on this kind of failure almost daily. I can also rework our power window switches when they fail from the same thing (also a common fail) and fix them permanently.
