I had a little melt down on #6 piston and bought another 01 short block to replace it with. The install went quite well, however the check engine light is on and the tachometer reads for about 30 seconds and then quits. Any ideas? I am going to taake it to the local DC dealer and have them check or codes.

Mine quit last week. Started out working erratically then quit all together. Turned out to be a cam sensor. Picked one up from Cummins for @ $50. 00.

Also a symptom of the crank position sensor, my 98 might be different but my tache reads from the CPS, the engine will run without it, but no tach, and wont start.

... . "engine will run without it". . thats when your drivng and the tach goes "0", DONT shut it off till its in a place it can sit for a while. CPS also around $50. Ive been told mine will do nothing without a cam signal.

Maybe

I wonder if there is a way to adjust the cam sensor closer to the cam? I did replace the sensor in the replacement block with the one from my old engine. Maybe it is just out of adjustment.
