Tach output from Alternator

I have a Delco Single wire alternator that came on the 4BTA which was mounted in a Bread Truck. There is no Tach output post on the Alternator. The only connection is for the Battery Line (single wire). Can a auto electric shop add a tach output to this alternator ? Do most common tach's accept this Alternator output to drive them ?

The same should apply to your Delco, the main thing is to install a tap wire between the fields and the rectifier. This tap should drive any tach that is designed to run off an alternator.

I was asking about this the other week on here about wiring my tach up on my GM. The ones in that post are all for 1st gen ALT's. Is the 2nd gen ALT (like mine) the same as mine? if so I think this is going to be what I will be doing and then just run an external regulator on it.



Can someone tell me if these two ALT's are the same?
