Most of you that have 92, and 93 models probably already have a Tach but if not and you need one check with Isspro. The reason I say this is that they have a connector kit that makes hooking up their tachs a snap on 92 and 93 models. There is a connection under the dash of our trucks that is for a factory tach if you had one (dash mount). It plugs in on one end to the connection under our dash and then hook up the other ends as instructions state.

I got my Tach from my uncle who is heavy into Marine engines and was a Cummins dealer. He went to auction sales and bought stuff by the bulk lot. He had this old looking tach sitting on his shelf and one day I asked if I could buy it. He gave it to me but there were no instructions with it. Called Isspro and they sent me all I needed to hook it up. Dummy me threw the part numbers away but today I found them on Isspros web site. It is a very hard site to navigate but the Part number for the harness kit is R-8912-92, price $19. 00. The Tach I have is the R-8585M, 3 3/8", riding in their on dash cup holder. All of their Tachs look good. I would like to get the 2" to go in my new dash pod. If anyone is interested in this (my present one) let me know and I will swing you a deal so I can get the 2" one.

If you go to the web site and want to see the tachs, select Tachs and speedometers from the drop down list then select Speedometers and this will bring up all the Tach pictures ???????? Mine is the R-8585M, let me know if anyone is interested.

Shrimpy, You Da Man!

Shrimpy, I cannot thank you enough! Ever since I bought my gauges (Nov. '00) I've been looking at a blank tach, until today that is. I saw your post a long time ago and made note of it, thought that I would order it on a rainy day. Ordered using your part #, which worked perfectly I might add, and finally got around to installing it today. Hooked up per directions, and what do ya know, it works!, it really works!:D

Thank you kindly, I just wish that I would of had this when I bought it. Scheid Diesel was so kind as to send me another when I told them that I couldn't get it to work. (This was back in November) My hats off to them! ;)

And finally my thanks to this site. Without you guys I wouldn't have been able to fix all the little things, and finally with the help of Big Don, graduate up to the fine art of BOMBING my truck!

Thanks again everyone,

Chris Hughes

Glad I could help Diesel. Just so no one thinks I still have my old one, it is gone. It's new home is in Vermont I believe. Scott, Who goes bt NuttyMopar was the lucky winner.

It took me a while to figure out and lots of reading but the archives are loaded with great information. I know most don't have the time to dig for info sometimes, but if you get the chance check them out. Chances are that someone has asked the same question or something very similar (sp).

Will the harness work on any tach?I have the VDO hooked to the alt. and it doesn't work all of the time and I can't figure it out but if I can hook it to the plug under the dash that would be perfect. Also is that plug under the dash hooked up to work(hot)?:p

The factory harness will not work on any tach. I don't know all of the different types of signals sent but there are those that make sense of an AC signal off the alternator and those that read a sensor off the crank. The factory unit gets a signal from the crankshaft position sensor that the PCM uses for several functions. I had found info on old posts before the TDR format change. Some of the contributors I remember offhand were Gene H. and Mark 93. The info of interest was that the signal produced at 3000 rpm was 100 Hz. That was on the gray/ lt blue wire. The orange wire was for lighting and included the dimmer function. Supposedly the other two were red (12V +) and black (grd). Well I had two blacks and had to meter out to ID.

At any rate I approached Westach with this info and they said that made sense and the would be happy to build me one. So they did and I received it a couple of days ago and hooked it up yesterday. Well it worked but at half speed. So anyway they are going to train it to read doubletime and all will be well. Sent it back yesterday and hope to see it back next week. Will post final results. Really nice looking guage and real good people to deal with.
