hey guys just bought a 06 ctd with 211,500 miles but the tach either dont work or is peg out or reads 4grand so my question is where does the tach lead come from or anybody got a fix or is this a common problem thanks in advance
Since your truck is a 2006, likely the tach problem is related to bad solder joints on the back side of the instrment cluster. VERY common on the 06 trucks.
There is a thread on this. Mine does the same thing. The last fix for it that I saw was to either get a whole new instrument cluster or, if you can, re-solder. I don't know squat about soldering those little things so I just ignore it. It is a little exciting the first time you see the tach swing around to 5000 rpm!
