Hey guys, so im looking at installing a tach in my 92 d250, I have been searching and from what I can find I am supposed to use the wires from the plug that is beside the hood latch? is that correct. also I found a 3 plug wire farther up inside the dash tapped to the main wire harness any info on this.

Sould be an unused plug in the harness between the brake relase and hood release. From memory I want to say it is a 3 wire plug.

It's a black plug that is taped down to the main harness under dash by the steering column flat 4 pin connector .

The OEM factory tachometer plug offers the following:

- 18ga Black = +12vdc for gage lights
- 20ga Orange = 12vdc Common
- 18ga Red = Switched +12vdc
- 20ga Grey w/light blue tracer = Tachometer Signal From PCM

I believe that plug is the OEM tach hook up. My tach is plugged into it but I've got a resister on the back of the tach itself. It came with a Banks kit I bought almost 20 years ago.
