Gulf Coast O-1 Installation

A while ago I exchanged a TAG III because the housing broke and the honeycomb part turned sideways and wore on my impeller shaft a little. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and accepted an exchange and put the new one in. I've been having some troubles lately and I decided to check on the TAG. Well, it wasn't blocking airflow and wasn't wearing on anything, but the housing was again cracked. Not cool. It's safe to assume that the TAG hasn't been causing me any troubles this time around, but damn, I'm glad I checked it.

If you have a TAG III take it out and throw it away before it ruins your turbo or worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure this has been discussed at length in other posts, but did you notice any significant gains while using the TAG? Seems like it wouldn't be worth the risk of damaged parts for a small gain in something.

When I first installed it I was thinking if it just extended the life of my turbo, it would be worth it. I like the way it works and all. It kills turbo whistle which isn't much of a plus for most I guess. It makes/allows the turbo to work smoother, noticeable in the boost gauge. If the housing were as good as the honeycomb I'd have no complaints. When I removed it tonight I slammed it against a pipe a bunch of times just 'cause I was a little upset and it barely left a dent. That thing is tough, except that crappy housing, which BTW is kinda a biggy.

I noticed a lower boost reading empty cruising, but I never saw any better mileage or decreased EGT.

I too checked on my TAG III and found the plastic housing split in two places. I was sent a replacement without question and installed the new one, but I'm going to keep a close eye on it.

I like the way it quiets down the turbo roar, something even my wife notice the couple of days I had to run without it, and it does qive a little quicker throttle response when I'm driving around town. I don't tow heavy so I can't say much under loaded conditions but I've seen a small reduction in EGTs on the gauge when driving the mountains out west. This device will give you a small improvement in the mid-rpm range but if you looking for big gains or running flat out with lots of horse power it won't add any benefits. I like it because it fits the way I drive.

If you have a TAG III, check your housing.

I know of no reason why I would have had two of these fail like this. I'm still using the factory rubber intake tubes, so that shouldn't be a potential problem.

Just surfin' and I came across some pics of a TAG III tonight. The housing looks to be a different color. Anyone know if they are different or not?

Cracked TAG III

I just want to stress that a cracked Turbo Air Guide is a rare occurence. Out of the over 5000 that we've sold we have been made aware of 4 cracking issues. Please note that you cannot use brake cleaner to clean the honeycomb or the plastic outer ring. It WILL deteriorate the plastic. That was the case on 2 of the cracked housings. If you have a TAG with a cracked housing please make us aware of it so we can make it right for you. As for the turning in the hose issue, we provide a clamp with the TAG. Please make sure that you use it and that it is clamped on the outside of the hose directly over the flange of the TAG whether you are using the stock hose or the Cool Hose. We offer a 30 Day money back guarantee and I have been known to go way beyond that. If the product is defective it will be replaced indefinitely.

In the dyno testing I saw it fattened the mid range and dropped the peak hp... ... ... ... it all depends on what you are looking for. If you look at the factory turbo inlet hose on the 05 and up it is equipped with turning vanes to direct the air into the turbo smoothly, another way to acomplish the same thing. The vanes add 50 cfm flow to the hose vs the earlier non vaned hose.

I posted earlier that I had a split TAG III and got a replacement that I installed because I like the way the truck runs with it. I pulled it out after about 20,000 on it and now I've found another small crack in the plastic body again. This is the second one now that has cracked on me and I have not done anything to it except drive it. It's out of the truck at this point. Maybe someone has a way of modifying it to be a solid assembly?
