2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission tail pipe / muffler upgrade

I want to improve mileage: Will a straight through muffler after the cat and a 3or 4 inch tail pipe improve things? Not looking for extra power just improved mileage. And I don't want extra noise in the cab. I also drive in California so I think I will need some kind of muffler.

I live in hippie central Santa Cruz and I love blasting them with the straight pipe. Haven't had a muffler for about 1. 5 years now. With a high flow air filter and your stock 3" pipe with no muff your turbo should spool better as well as getting better millage. The more/easier you move air through the motor the better it works.

just buy a quality 4" system. a nice aluminized system won't cost you more than a couple hundred dollars, and it'll be a simple bolt-on deal.



if you EVER run into a smog-nazi situation where you need a cat, just source one off of a 3rd gen east of the state line
