Tailgate cables too weak?

Just wondrin'... . Are the cables stronger than the solid stock used on the older pickups?... ... ... ..... On occasion I put a fair amount of weight on'em, and I'd sure hate to smash my tailgate... ... .

The new cables suck. I've already replaced one and so has MGM. They break right in the middle at the fold. I have a tail grabber from Geno's on my truck now (it's a suspension cable that makes the tailgate very light) and I think that will help with the longevity of the tailgate cables because there's very little weight put on them most of the time.
