I need a pair of tailgate cables to put on my fifth wheel tailgate. Dodge gets about $40 EACH for them. Aftermarket houses I've checked don't seem to stock them yet... except saying "03 and up" which are about 2" short.

Anyone have a source or an idea?

Thanks

I would go to the local wrecking yard.

Well, I thought about that too, but an 06 seems pretty new to find any/many in a wrecking yard. Will make some calls, though.

Take the ones off your stock tailgate. Very easy to do.

Yeah, I know but I change the tailgates pretty often and it's more convenient for them each to have their own cables. Lazy, I know. I'll likely end up doing that at least until the aftermarket has them at a reasonable price. Guess I really should leave the new gate on more often cuz it's better for milage.

I could be wrong, but I believe the 2005 uses the same cables. You might also find that the same cables are used on 2003-2006. Just have a dealer give you the part numbers for each of the years to verfiy.

Riebies ordered some for me today which were touted as "03 and up" and they were easily 2" too short. I was surprised as well. Guess I'll take the previous poster's advice and use the stock ones. . at least until I can find another set cheaply.

Are you sure those were 3rd gen cables? Maybe they gave you some for 2nd gen by mistake? If it weren't windy and snowing, I'd run out and measure mine.
