Watch the cables on your tailgates!! I lowered (OK, slightly dropped ) my tailgate s few weeks ago and one of the cables broke! Did notice that some of the plastic coating around the cable was worn off and rust had set in. When I went to my local Dodge dealer to get a pair of new ones, he told me a fellow was just in with his arm in a cast because he was standing on the tailgate when the cable let go -- true story. My truck is a 1997. The cables are cheap enough and easy to replace. Check 'em out before they break.

I had one to brake afew weeks back but the coating wasn't worn off. I had noticed a bulge in it before it gave out. Check the new ones to make sure they are the same length. Mine were off by about a 1/2 inch. And they are side spacific. R. C.

I don't know why thye don't use stainless wire rope. We use it all the time on the vinyl Gazebos we fabricate and it's cheap. Quality is definately fadind on the cables. I've put 3 on my 97 (one under warranty) I've only had to put one on my 87 in 14 years before I sold it last summer.
