Mopar exhaust Brake

Getting ready to put my exhaust system on here in the next month or so. Has anyone run one with the tailpipe in front of the rear wheel? Any pictures? Any pros/cons to doing it one way or the other - like differences in interior or exterior noise? Thank in advance.

Behind

I prefer behind as it's a little quieter, but of course, more expensive to install. Another consideration is do you have mudflaps or similar to keep the tire from throwing snow, water, and salt at your tailpipe?

My roomate has an '01 HO with a 4" mufflerless shorty from Rip, and that thing is REALLY loud. My five inch all the way out behind the wheels is way quieter than his. He is going to put the supplied muffler on it to quiet it down. One more problem, his truck smokes (a little bit) and his right rear wheel is always black.

It's been my experience that it is a good idea to get the smoke and smell as for as possible from the principal passenger.

Enjoyed it for a while, but eventually the brown tire and black sooted wheel/quarter panel convienced me to put it out back where it belongs. Took a few hits from rocks when it was infront of the tire, as well.

It keeps the 'just armoralled black' on the tire:-laf. If you use a muffler it's not loud. I have 5" in front of the tire with a 5" chrome turndown it looks good to me and sounds awesome under an overpass... the twins sing to me every chance I get!! :D:D

Not yet. Hoping to install on Feb 19. J. R. is installing it for me and was working on a big project of his own up until New Year's, and I'm in and out of town all this month. He's going to do the clutch, install a 12V master and slave cylinder, and lengthen the clutch rod for me.

I've got a set of DD3's and a Bullydog exhaust ready to go in, along with a pusher pump and gauges, after we get the clutch done. That should last me the rest of the year, I hope.

I'll send you a pm if you want after the install and let you know how it drives...

Thanks for all the input everybody. Does anybody know if anyone makes a 6" turndown tip?

Neither

Ck my pics ... i routed it straight out the back. It got really noisy out the stock position with no CAT & a shorty 4" muffler. Straight out the back ... with a little turn down fixed the in-cab noise. :)

Behind the tire

Gets even amounts of soot on the Tailgaters... :-laf :-laf :-laf

The entire exhaust is fairly simple. I have a 5" downpipe so...

you need a 10' stick of 5" ex pipe, a 5" muffler (10" round is what i have) as short as possible, a 5" 90* bend, a ~14" tip what ever you like ( i'm gonna change to a mitre cut  ), and 2 band clamps. You'll need a couple of exh hangers too.

The front hanger is a 1/2" piece of rod bent at a 90* angle then inserted into a hole (it already has a rubber busing in it) in the transmission.

Right infront of the spring hanger there is a spot to route the pipe out. Once you get under the truck it's pretty obvious.

I'll give this project a 3beer (of a sixpack:D) rating because it requires a welder to complete it;):D

I think I will probably do the same, but with an after-wheel exit more like stock. However, I am interested in your 5" DP. Is it custom?
