I can't figre out how to get the rotors off of my 95 dodge 3500 6x6. I have the brake caliper, center nut, and four 12 point bolts off of the spindle, and it still won;t come off.

Could somebody tell me how to do this, please?

TIA

Brute Force!

There is a large slide hammer for this. I works pretty good (15 minutes of pounding hard). See if you can borrow or rent one.

The other alternative is to make up a puller and pull on the studs while pushing on the axle. I wouldn't recommend it because you might be doing something bad to the diff. I did mine that way and seperated the bearing. Changed the rotor, greased it up, reassembled it. So far so good (2 years and about 25,000 miles).

The rotor is held to the hub by the studs. Drive them out carefully and the rotor will fall off the bearing assembly but you do have to remove the bearing assembly from the spindle.

Eric's advice is good. I was able to get mine off without a puller by first soaking over night with Liquid Wrench then heating the shaft, it then slid right off with a couple whacks from a lead hammer. One warning is to leave at least one of four bolts in part way, if you don't the shaft can move out from the front differential while you're pulling things and possibly damage the seal, then you will have one more thing to fix. Use anti-seize on the splines when you reassemble it so the next time is easier.

illflem points out what I wasn't even thinking about...

The side I did that seperated must have been siezed to the shaft. The other side I did a couple months ago, it was stuck in bore of the spindle but the shaft was free.

Perhaps if you can get it to start out of the spindle, you can tap the axle out of the bearing.

Fun stuff, eh?

Got It

Right after I posted this i went out to the shop and made a tool to pull off the hub assemblely. I took a piece 3"x12"x5/8" flat iron and drilled two holes to match two opposite studs in the rotor. the spindle shaft stuck out enought that i could tighten down the lug nuts and slowly pull off the hub. Works great and really smooth, no hammering #ad

Thanks guys

GOT KROIL?

The bros out there, especially in the salt and snow, need to get a jug of KROIL... . it may be a bit hard to find but it is one of THEE best penetrating oils around, we use it at work to take apart steam turbines.

I did a "Katectomy" with KROIL, no heat, no cutting just pushed it off with my feet on the muffler... 150,000+ miles! Removing it was a waste of time though... did little or nothing.
