Diesel Confab

I want to put my '96 12v engine into a '99 or newer Ford F350 SRW Superduty Supercab Longbed with a 5spd manual. There, I said it. I'm looking to gain some of the advantages of the Ford chassis and brakes as I understand it. Is there an ideal donor year and makeup? For example, I'm looking at a 2004 with the v10, 160,000 miles. I think I can get the truck for around $7500. Does this sound like a good doner or should I be looking for one with a diesel? What are the chances of selling a used v10 engine? Also. what are the chances of selling my truck without an engine? Thanks in advance. I realize that this will not be very cheap but it should run a lot cheaper than getting a 2005 or up Dodge.

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I've done a small amount of research and am familiar with all the major sites focused on this. I am mainly looking for someone with 1st hand experience/advice.

If i had one id do the swap in fact im looking for a simular truck to do a swap i got a 92 with a body that is coming apart on it that needs a new set of wheels for it

Hi,

You my know this already, but I would check with your state's DMV to see if this is legal to do. With the newer emission laws you may not be able to install an engine older than the doner vehicle to legally drive on the street. You may install a 96, 12V into a 95 or older vehicle but not newer than the engine year in some states.

Here is a link to the SEMA action site that list by state the DMV rules on vehicle reconstruction. SEMA Action Network (SAN) TAG_TITLE_TOOLBOX
