Tall and narrow tires

For some reason I don't like the really fat tires. With my 6" front/4" rear lift that is built in with my air ride I will be running my 285s on stock wheels until I can put maybe 35s on. 315s would be good too.



But what about a tire that's maybe 35 by 8 or 9, do they even make those? I don't want tractor tires, I want something that will fill the wheel wells better than the 285s, but not so wide that they stick out too far, although fender flares would be an option.

I bought 19. 5's for that reason. It's a heavy and expensive way to go but I got a 285 that is 35. 5" tall.

Denman Coyotes

Nick,



I believe that Denman started up production again of their Coyote. They offer a 305/85R16 (36. 4" x 12. 0" nominal) that says 36" x 12. 4" on an 8" rim according to the Denman website. The tread is an all-terrain type and they are E load range. They also have a fairly soft rubber compound, so it's not an 80,000 mile tire, but I've gotten around 40,000 out of them a few times. I bought them before from National Tire and Wheel, but they don't show them in their ads or website. I have been very happy with them. Interco Boggers may be available in a 38. 5" x 11", but it doesn't sound like that will suit your needs anyway. Good luck in your search.

i have 315 cooper discoverer st's on my stock height truck... they don't stick out of the fender wells, but if you get into mud enough and keep the tires spinning, they seem to cover the truck pretty thoroughly... point is if all you do is on road, it might be a good option for you

Super Swamper Interco makes it's SSR in a 35/10. 50/16. Thats what I'm hoping for the next go around on the old dually.

I quit running the 285's and went with the TOYO M-55s looking for a tall narrow tire - I bought the 255-85R16 they are 33. 1" tall. I searched and searched for a taller narrow tire but that is what I ended up with and have been very pleased with them. All the other tall narrow tires had very aggressive tread patterns. Although these may not be tall enough for your trucks height?



My stock rims on my '96 are 6. 5" wide and the 285-75R16s and wider tires are not recomended for that narrow of a rim even though many people (myself included) have ran them for years.

My stock wheels are 6. 5 inch also (99 truck) and running 285s. Little narrow for the tire but they work.



I may have to look at the Toyo M-55s too.



Scott, after the lift I won't be able to afford Rickson's! I would like to try them though.

Wheel size and offset are the biggest issue for our trucks (to me!). I run 37-12. 50-17 BFG mudders on 17x8 Weld wheels with 4 5/8 backspacing. A wheel with approx 6" backspacing would be ideal to me. Check my pics, I have a Skyjacker 4. 5" lift and no clearance issues, but I don't off-road much so I don't get too much articulation. KORE suspension has Weld wheel making their spec wheels for the Dodge trucks, better backspacing and tire fitment, but they are 18" wheel. Maybe a 35-12. 50-18 on their 18x8. 5 wheel... it would be about 1 inch further in than mine.

Those were on 16x7 alcoas with very little offset. They only rubbed on the back of the plastic fenderwell. Longer control arms from the 3" tuff country lift would have fixed that.



M55's are a helluva tire.

I ran Denman Coyote 305/85R16's for about 5 years. GREAT tire. With just leveling springs the 36" tall tire fit and never once hit. Nothing fills the wheelwell like a 305/85/16.

Coyote's are pretty good tires. A few guys i work with run them as street tires, and they all love them.

interco makes a 35x10. 50 ssr, 34x9. 50 swamper, 34x10. 50 LTB (ive used the ltb's).

I believe mickey used to make a 35x10. 50 also. I've seen some 9. 50-16 (cant remember the brand off hand) that were 9" wide and almost 36" tall.
