A friend has a 1 ton Dually with 235/85 tires on 16" stock rims.

He'd like to get TALLER tires using the same 16" rims. I recommended the Rickson 19. 5" rims and tires and he said that he would like to stay with the 16 stock rims.

He tows skidsters and a backhoe, but not all the time. If he was towing all the time he'd stick with the smaller tires.

His motive is to get a taller tire and thus reduce his rpm's as much as possible.

What suggestions?

Thanks

- Ben

If it's a 2001 he can run 255/85/16's with NO PROBLEMS (Equates to a 33. 4 inch tire) on the factory rims. HOWEVER MOST 255's ARE D RATED !

Me I run 255/85's as I don't load it to the hilt and drive far anyway.

While all the 255/85 tires I have seen are D rated, they are usually rated for more weight than smaller E rated tires. There are a couple of threads active right now on tire rating explaining why.

Thanks. I've relayed the info on to him.

He was thinking about SPACING the rear tires with something to allow for more room between the tires. He thinks he has enough treads on the lug nuts to space between the two rims and still get enough "bite" to hold well.

... what are your feelings on this?

Nice link. Looks like a quality product. Will pass the info to him. I'm sure he'll be very interested. There prices seem reasonable too.

Thanks!
