A friend at work is having trouble with his fuel gauge on his 99 always reading full? Even when the truck is at half tank or less.

Is the sensor in the tank going bad?

Boot the tank good and hard a few times and see what happens. I've had to do this twice on my '99 when mine has stuck on empty.

My 99 did this often. What you need to do is fill the tank to "FULL" I mean fill it till you can't fill anymore and reset the trip meter keep track of your millage it should free the float. Mine freed up every time. I want to say every time I would gas the 99 up without filling it up all the way (topping it off) the dam thing would stick until I did the above procedure.

Hope this helps you out.

What he said, sometimes the float hangs up on the side of the tank if the float/sump assembly is not indexed correctly, there are two marks, one on the tank and one on the top of the assembly that need to line up.

Mine does this also. The only way i can control it is as soon as the pumps auto shutoff clicks off DO NOT TOP OFF YOUR TANK. Pull it out and close your tank. When I would try to top off the tank it stayed on full untill I kicked the tank and then the float would drop.
